The San Juan Mountains present ample opportunities for outdoor adventures. Skiing, snowboarding, fishing… golfing?
Many are surprised to discover that Telluride is home to one of the highest-rated golf courses in all of Colorado—and it’s not hard to figure out why. Telluride Golf Club offers spectacular views, meticulously manicured greens, an incredible 19th hole experience, and so much more.
Whether you’re a golf aficionado seeking a unique mountain golf experience or you’re coming to Telluride already and you want to kill some time at the driving range, join us for an overview of Colorado’s favorite mountain course.
Telluride Golf Course is situated less than 20 minutes outside of the main downtown Telluride stretch. An easy drive west along Highway 145, travelers will eventually take a left onto Mountain Village Boulevard and follow the winding road all the way back to the course, just a few short and scenic miles. You can also ride the free gondola from town to mountain village, just a 13-minute scenic trip.
The course itself is an 18-hole, 6,574-yard beauty. The par-70 course was expertly designed to take advantage of Telluride’s natural landscape, with strategic obstacles and picturesque mountain views. The grounds include stunning stretches of open grasslands, scenic natural forests, rugged mountain cliffs, and more, for a truly one-of-a-kind golf experience. The tee-off point sits at just over 9,400 feet, which situates Telluride Golf Club as one of the highest golf courses in the world!
If you’re curious about golfing at such a high altitude, rest assured that the altitude works in golfers’ favor. The thinner mountain air provides less resistance against the ball, resulting in impressively long drives. The course embraces this with several holes that stretch over 400 yards in length.
Upon arrival, visitors are greeted by the stunning course clubhouse. Here, golfers can check in for their reservation, grab a few snacks and refreshments, warm up on the driving range, and load the cart for the afternoon adventure.
Play on the Telluride Golf Course is limited to Members of Telluride Ski & Golf Club and their Guests.
The course kicks off with a 377-yard, downhill par-4 and continues with smooth par 3s and par 4s through the front nine. The back nine winds deeper into the mountain with challenging uphill shots and thoughtfully placed barriers and bunkers. The work is well worth the effort, however, as the final three holes offer the absolute best views along the entire course!
