Grocery Stores In Telluride

A question that guests often ask leading up to their stay is “what are our grocery shopping options in Telluride?” & “should we do our grocery shopping before we get to Telluride?”. There is no short or simple answer to this question, so we are providing you with the full range of options here! If you do leave your shopping until you arrive, prepare yourself for resort pricing & limited options. There is no City Market or Walmart within 70 miles. If you do fly into Montrose and you have a car rented, you may want to make a stop stop at one of the larger markets to stock up on groceries.

One important thing to note is that plastic bags were banned in Telluride a few years ago. You do have to pay for paper bags at the checkout. Generally, hotels and vacation rental companies will provide their guests with reusable bags, so don’t forget to grab a few of these bags on your way to the market.

The Top Grocery Stores In Telluride

Telluride has three grocery stores to choose from.

if you are staying up in Mountain Village, the Mountain Village Market is the closest option, and it is the largest grocery store in the area. This market has a decent selection of cheeses, deli meats, fresh fruit & vegetables. There is also a liquor store connected to the market so you can buy your beer & wine there too.

The Mountain Village Market is located at 455 Mountain Village Boulevard, Mountain Village. If you are staying in the village core, you can ride the short, free gondola from the main plaza (above the ski school) across to the market. If you are staying in Mountain Village and are not walking or gondola ride distance call Dial-A-Ride on 970-728-8888 and they will come & pick you up & drive you to the store for free also.

Clark’s Market

Clark’s is the ‘larger’ grocery store in Telluride town, although it is still teeny tiny as far as grocery stores go. Located right on Colorado Avenue as you enter town.

If you are staying on the west end of town (at the Viking Lodge, Telluride Lodge, Lulu City, Cimarron Lodge etc) you can walk to this store within minutes. Alternatively, you can catch the Galloping Goose which is the free bus service that loops around town & goes right by Clark’s Market. Don’t be afraid to ask the bus driver if you aren’t sure. Clark’s Market is located at 700 West Colorado Avenue, Telluride, Colorado.

The Village Market

This market is located right in the center of Telluride, on the corner of Pacific Street & South Fir Street. This is the smallest grocery store in Telluride & is great for basics & snacks.

Telluride Farmers Markets

If you love fresh, local, organic food then the Telluride Farmer’s Market is a wonderful option during the summer months. The outdoor market takes place every Friday on south Oak street. “Our market features organic fruits and vegetables, pasture raised meats, eggs, and cheese, artisan bread and baked goods, an array of delicious concessions and expert locally made crafts. All products are grown or created within 100 miles of Telluride”.

Over The Moon

Over The Moon Fine Foods has a distinct Euro vibe. Serving a mouth watering selection of French & Italian wines, cheese, meats, breads & other yummy treats, this deli is a great place to stop if you plan on hosting chic alpine happy hours during your Telluride stay!

The Market at Mountain Village

The Top Area Liquor Stores in Telluride

If you are in Telluride town, there are 3 liquor stores.

Telluride Liquors & Wine Shop

Located on Main Street and is mostly beer & liquor. They also have wine but if you are wino you might want to visit one of the other 2 options.

By far the largest liquor store in town. They have a huge selection of Colorado & international beers as well as wines & spirits.

Wine Mine At Pacific Street Liquors

My personal favorite! Locally owned & operated, and the staff are all super nice & helpful. They have an excellent selection if local & international wines. Their team are also really knowledgeable & helpful.
