Telluride’s 36-acre Town Park is a community recreation space and the center of many activities and events in the Town of Telluride, especially during the summer and fall months. In the summertime, the park hosts popular annual festivals, including the local volunteer firefighters Independence Day fireworks display as well as music festivals and craft fairs. Located on the east end of the box canyon along the San Miguel River, Telluride Town Park is one of the area’s most beautiful places, and the ideal setting for mountain village recreation and family fun year-round.
Top Festivals At Telluride Town Park
T The expansive open spaces of Telluride Town Park at the base of the San Juan Mountains provide a scenic, natural environment for community gatherings and family-friendly events, including the Telluride Blues and Brews Festival, Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Telluride Jazz Festival, and The Ride Festival. Telluride Town Park is also the site where dozens of hot air balloons launch each year in June for the Telluride Balloon Festival.

This multi-stage celebration of music and craft beer takes place in September each year. The all-ages event also features kids activities, a 5k fundraiser race, free morning yoga sessions, regional food and craft vendors, and more. Past performers include The Allman Brothers Band, Lou Reed, BB King, Robert Plant, James Brown, Joe Cocker, Etta James, Willie Nelson, ZZ Top, The B-52’s, and other legendary acts. Many of the nation’s top craft brewers travel to Telluride for the event, sharing more than 170 styles of beer and cider.

This annual, weekend-long celebration of Americana features musical performances, collaborations, and workshops related to bluegrass music, as well as sounds that blur the genre line. Notable performers at past festivals have included Johnny Cash, Elvis Costello, John Fogerty, Dixie Chicks, Alison Krauss, Willie Nelson, Steve Martin, Norah Jones, and Lyle Lovett. The festival often coincides with the summer solstice in June, kicking off the summer season in Telluride.
This annual music and cultural event has been a fixture in southwestern Colorado since 1977, as one of the “most scenic music events in the country”. The three day (and night) event is held in August each year, welcoming festival-goers to enjoy craft food and beverage offerings, set to the soundtrack of jazz newcomers and Grammy Award-winning legends alike. The weekend culminates in a New Orleans-style parade down Main Street. Artists gracing the festival stages include Muddy Waters, Dizzy Gillespie, Etta James, Herbie Hancock, Macy Gray, and Bruce Hornsby.
Telluride Town Park Features
Managed by the Town of Telluride, the Town Park is a fabulous place for the whole family to let loose and release some energy. Enjoy a variety of sports courts at Telluride Town Park, including multiple baseball fields, basketball courts, soccer fields, sand volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, and tennis and pickle ball courts. If you’re seeking more fast-paced adventures, the park’s skateboarding park and bicycle pump tracks are both open daily, year-round.
The little ones will love the toddler playground featuring a climbing element for children ages 5 and up, and the Imagination Station playground offering areas for creative play along with slides, climbing features, and swings. The Kid’s Fishing Pond is stocked with small trout for children under 12 to catch.
In the summer months, the park offers public swimming (and lessons) in the on-site swimming pool, kept heated to approximately 82 degrees. Adults $8, Seniors $5 and kids $4. There is a lap swimming pool as well as a shallower pool for kids, including a zero entry play area complete with fountains and waterfalls and a small slide. Locker rooms, showers, and heated bathrooms are also available for guest use. Telluride Town Park Campground offers just over 30 campsites – some with vehicle/RV site space, but no hookups provided.
During the winter season, take advantage of two ice rinks for hockey and ice skating, and a Nordic ski trail. The indoor Hanley Rink is a regulation size ice hockey rink. The outdoor rink has a warming hut and bathrooms. The Nordic Center ski area offers cross country ski lessons, ice skating, and equipment rentals for use on the rinks and courses. Town Park is also home to the only sledding hill in town – Firecracker Hill.
