Telluride Historical Museum

Plan a getaway with loved ones to a resort town like no other. Colorado is dotted with many cozy mountain resort towns that offer plenty of activities throughout the year. Historic Telluride offers those activities, along with a rich history you’ll want to learn more about to get the full picture of how the town became the vacation draw that it is today. Stop by the Telluride Historical Museum at 201 W. Gregory Avenue to get the full story. Hours vary by season, and the museum closes at various times of the year for maintenance, so call 970-728-3344 before heading out. General admission is $9, and students (age 6-17), seniors (age 65+) are $6, guests five and under are free.

Permanent Exhibits

You’ll find an array of permanent exhibits telling the story of Telluride’s past. The “Origins Room” gives you a glimpse into how the San Juan mountain range was formed, and how the elements combined to carve out the landscape. See the Telluride Blanket, a brown/red/white twill fabric dating back as early as 1041 C.E. and the Anasazi. Learn about community life throughout the years, the mining boom, or about Butch Cassidy’s first bank robbery including a take worth over $777,000 today!

Temporary Exhibits

There’s so much to Telluride and the surrounding area, we can’t hold it all in one museum all the time! There are a number of rotating or visiting exhibits that add color or other information to the basic history of the area. These exhibits at this Telluride museum focus on topics like the Telluride Ski Area, the Valley Floor and is preservation, and historic events like World War II and more.
